Are you looking for good reasons to use thermoplastics?

The Xtreme-Tech expedition 2024: the ultimate endurance test

In early 2024, three riders - Mike Fuchs, Oliver Gehrking, and David Arlandis - will embark on a 1,300-kilometer e-bike expedition through Erg Chegaga, Morocco's largest sandy desert.  Their goal is to demonstrate that bicycle frames and components made from thermoplastics can withstand the toughest conditions.

Sustainability is the linchpin

The Xtreme-Tech expedition takes place in a very sensitive and challenging ecosystem. On e-bikes and with components that are all highly resilient, they will prove that such a demanding expedition is also possible while consistently implementing the concept of sustainability.

The bicycle frames impress with four main features:

  • V Frames bicycle frames have a 68 percent lower carbon footprint than traditional aluminum frames.
  • V Frames are lighter than aluminum frames
  • V Frames frames are 100 percent recyclable at the end of their life.
  • The Buddy X1 frame was the first off-tool, injection-molded frame to pass all relevant tests for this bicycle class with flying colors.

The Bikes

The participants of the expedition are riding high-quality Buddy X1* electric bicycles. These bikes are a product of a partnership between Buddy Bike (based in Norway) and ISOCO/V Frames (from Saalfeld in Germany), and they establish benchmarks for sustainability and performance. Thermoplastic carbon fiber materials made by LEHVOSS are used for the production of these products.
